New charge accuses Lubbock man of cutting child to keep him from food

LUBBOCK, Texas — A child abuse investigation into two Lubbock men has resulted in a third charge being filed against Jarred Ybarra, 32, court records obtained on Friday confirmed.

Jarred and Alfonso Ybarra, 62, were previously charged with two counts of Injuring a Child resulting in serious bodily injury after they were accused of depriving a 10-year-old boy of food as a punishment. A new charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon was added to Jarred’s jail roster on Thursday.

Court records said the child finally felt safe enough to make an outcry of Jarred cutting him with a knife to prevent him from getting food. Court documents said Alfonso “clearly participated” in the assault by covering it up. However, the aggravated assault charge was not on Alfonso’s jail roster as of Friday.

Court documents indicated the abuse had been happening for years. The child slowly made outcries to teachers, which led to the initial investigation. Court records said the child was malnourished. The child made outcries that Alfonso and Jarred confined him in a closet with human feces.

As of Friday, Alfonso remained at the Lubbock County Detention Center on a combined $125,000 bond. Jarred’s bonds totaled $350,000…
