Madison’s budget committee wants to fund a handful of additional improvements and projects using capital dollars next year, including body-worn cameras in the Police Department, sidewalk reconstruction on State Street and upgrades for the downtown public library.
At their Sept. 29 meeting, committee members advanced a handful of amendments to Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway’s 2026 capital budget proposals. The changes would impact six agencies, including parks, traffic engineering and fleet service.
Leaders across all city agencies requested $298 million from next year’s capital fund, about 12% more than this year. Rhodes-Conway reduced the department heads’ asks by about $13 million, proposing a capital budget of $285 million, according to city documents…
