SAN ANTONIO, TX – A Texas couple is facing capital murder charges after police say they brutally abused their 10-year-old adopted son for more than a year, locking him in a laundry room and subjecting him to horrifying assaults that ultimately led to his death.
The Fatal Night
On Sept. 24, San Antonio police were called to a home on Cielo Ranch in the East Village neighborhood, where they found Michael Miranda unresponsive. Despite life-saving efforts, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the affidavit, Michael appeared emaciated, with a distended stomach, abrasions on his face, legs, and feet, and bruises covering his back in various stages of healing. When his diaper was removed, investigators found large open sores on his buttocks.
The medical examiner also discovered:
- Trauma suggesting a possible internal neck injury
 - Signs of starvation and malnutrition
 - A lacerated lower intestine
 - A dislocated arm
