Former CSUB softball coach speaks out on alleged coverup regarding arrest of Kevin Mays

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The CSUB athletics department continues to be embroiled in controversy as a months-long saga with the softball team may now be tied to the arrest of Kevin Mays.

In March, Head Softball Coach Letty Olivarez and her husband, Assistant Coach James Davenport, were put on leave following accusations of misconduct. The accusations were made in a TikTok video by now former player Violet Salazar.

That video has since been deleted, but in the video, she claims that Davenport sexually assaulted her and was body-shamed by Olivarez. In an interview with Eyewitness News in March, Salazar said that she was not the only victim and claimed that several other former players reported the couple to the university’s Title IX office.

“Out of my own opinion, the way he touched our players, the way he made us feel, the way he pulled out a gun, he needs to be in prison,” Salazar said at the time…
