‘I just want to thank her’: Cleveland teacher’s act of kindness sparks viral search 20 years later

CLEVELAND — Olivia Bean was nine years old when she and her mother were staying in a motel outside Cleveland. Every day, she took three buses to get to the now closed Corlett Elementary School.

“My mom didn’t have a job at the time, and so she found a friend who was willing to let us stay in his motel because there were two beds,” Bean said. “And it just happened to be kind of far away from school, but it was what we had.”

The journey took an hour and a half each way. Bean, now 30 years old and living in New York City, usually made the trip alone…
