MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — A Mobile lawmaker believes the next governor of Alabama will pump the brakes on the West Alabama Highway project. It will complete a four-lane highway corridor connecting Mobile and Tuscaloosa. Construction is underway. A frustrated Rep. Chris Pringle (R-Mobile) didn’t mince words during an oversight committee meeting Thursday afternoon where lawmakers held a contract related to the project for 45 days.
“You know, I’ve said it before, the next governor is going to shut that project down because it has no federal matching funds on it, and it’s eating all of our gas tax money up. I mean, we’re just throwing good money after bad because of your boss,” said Pringle during the meeting.
His comments were directed at ALDOT Assistant Chief Engineer Clay McBrien, who was at the meeting to answer questions about a legal services contract for the project. Pringle told McBrien the project will never be completed because it is completely funded by state gas tax revenue…
