SAN DIEGO — A 55-year-old man died today in San Diego Sheriff’s custody, making the ninth death so far in 2025.
The man was arrested two days prior for public intoxication and was booked into the San Diego Central Jail. This is the third person to die this year within two days of incarceration in a San Diego County jail.
Just before midnight on Oct. 1, deputies at the Central Jail were doing rounds when they saw the man unresponsive in a holding cell. He was alone. Deputies called 911 and brought in additional medical staff inside the facility to help perform lifesaving measures…
