After nearly two weeks on the run, murder suspect Severiano Valdonado has been taken into custody by the Texas Department of Public Safety in cooperation with the Karnes County Sheriff’s Office. As reported by KSAT, the 38-year-old was located at a downtown Austin homeless encampment, violating city ordinances by camping alongside a river.
The arrest occurred after DPS Bicycle Patrol Unit troopers identified Valdonado, who attempted to quickly flee but was subdued by a taser and secured by law enforcement. Valdonado now faces six charges, with four originating outside of Travis County. The charges from within Travis County include evading arrest, a state jail felony, and intending to give false information, a misdemeanor. According to KSAT, the suspect is accused of the shooting death of Michelle Jannsen on September 18 in Runge, Texas.
Prior to this arrest, details emerged about Valdonado being spotted in Bastrop County and being provided a ride to a southeast Austin homeless shelter by an unwitting Good Samaritan.
