CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The City of Cedar Rapids will begin accepting applications for its need-based Snow Buddies program on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 8 a.m.
The program pairs residents who are unable to clear their sidewalks with volunteers, known as “Snow Heroes,” who help remove snow and ice during the winter months. City officials said the program is designed for people without other snow-removal resources, such as neighbors, family, or a hired service. Capacity is limited and depends on the number of volunteers.
To qualify, applicants must live in Cedar Rapids, have a sidewalk, and be either 65 or older or have a mobility impairment. They must also meet income guidelines — up to $35,600 annually for a one-person household and $40,650 for two people…
