Woman admits to carjacking vehicle with a 4-year-old still inside: CPD

A 33-year-old woman has been ordered detained after prosecutors said she and an accomplice carjacked a mother on the West Side while her 4-year-old son sat in the back seat.

According to a detention petition, the child’s 24-year-old mother was sitting in the passenger seat of a running Hyundai Elantra while her boyfriend went inside a store in the 2800 block of West Roosevelt Road. Prosecutors say that’s when Tamika Maclin climbed into the driver’s seat and started struggling with the woman.

Moments later, an accomplice opened the passenger door, pulled the woman out of the car, and threw her to the ground. Both assailants then sped away in the Elantra with the 4-year-old still in the back seat. Officers later located the vehicle near 2 South Pulaski Road with the boy still inside…
