PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland dispensaries reported fewer crimes last year, according to a recently released report.
Data highlighted by Portland Permitting & Development shows there was a 19% decline in burglary, robbery and vandalism incidents reported by cannabis businesses throughout Fiscal Year 2024. About 90% of the businesses that were impacted by crimes that year and in 2023 were retail businesses, the 2024 Cannabis Annual Report said.

It focuses on work done by Portland’s Cannabis Policy Oversight Team, which was first formed in 2015 when recreational use was legalized in Oregon.
“Despite being 10 years old, the legal, regulated cannabis industry in Oregon, is still a relatively young system with ever-shifting science, policies, and practices for the producers, processors, retail workers, consumers, advocates, and all others engaged in cannabis work,” the report reads. “To meet the challenges of this evolving industry, it is essential that the Cannabis Policy Oversight Team be set up for success.”…
