Punky Brewster Star Soleil Moon Frye and Daughter Are Two Peas in a Pod
She might be an ’80s sitcom icon, but Soleil Moon Frye is also a proud mom to four children! The beloved actress and documentarian, 49, who shot to superstardom as everyone’s favorite adoptee on the classic TV series Punky Brewster, is clearly loving life as a mom these days.
For those who need a little refresher, Punky Brewster followed the adventures of a little girl named Punky, abandoned and taken in with her golden retriever, Brandon, by her foster parent, Henry Warnimont—a lovable, albeit curmudgeonly, older man in Chicago. Hilarity and plenty of heartwarming lessons were always on the menu!
In a recent Instagram post, Frye shared a heartwarming photo alongside her 20-year-old daughter, Poet. But what really caught everyone’s eye?
Poet is an absolute spitting image of her mom at that age! Seriously, it’s uncanny.
Frye captioned the sweet photo, which showed the duo hugging under a sunset by the waterfront: “Time with my girl under the sun, moon & sparkling sky’s. I love you @poet_siennarose.
These days & nights together will forever be treasured. ✨⭐️✨”
And don’t miss the comment section, where the one and only Cherie Johnson, Frye’s co-star from Punky Brewster, chimed in! (If you’re a true fan, you’ll remember a certain running gag about Cherie and refrigerators!)
She Doesn’t Feel Her Age
For an actress and documentarian often associated with her child star days, Frye readily admits she doesn’t feel anywhere near her 49 years. In a recent interview, she confessed to feeling like she’s “graduating from my teens to my 20s.
I’m entering my 20s. I am still such a kid in so many ways.”
She elaborated on her youthful outlook to Yahoo Life back in May: “I have this joy for life and discovery and adventure and excitement that feels incredibly youthful — and at the same time, this incredible gratitude and appreciation for the experience.” Frye shared that she now makes a conscious effort to appreciate every moment, something she wishes she had done more when she was younger and more consumed by insecurities. “I really want to appreciate all the different versions of myself, so that when I’m 80, 90 or 100 years old, looking back, I can be like, Wow, you really were able to feel that moment and appreciate [it].”
Soleil Moon Frye Has a Thriving Career as a Director
While many still connect Frye to her childhood role, she’s actually built a flourishing career as a director in adulthood. Earlier this year, she helmed Paramount+’s compelling documentary, The Carters: Hurts to Love You.
The film explored the childhood abuse faced by Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter and his siblings, told through the perspective of Angel Carter, who is the last surviving sibling besides Nick. The documentary also touched upon the tragic losses of their other three siblings, Leslie, Bobbie Jean, and Aaron, who all passed away from drug-related causes between 2012 and 2023.
