Family of Lawrence Leyva voices frustration as killer takes plea deal in stabbing case

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The family of Lawrence Leyva, a Bakersfield man who died after being stabbed last year, is expressing their disappointment after learning that his killer, Bradley Perez, took a plea deal.

Adam Hill, Leyva’s brother, said, “They said they wanted to pursue second degree manslaughter. They said, be patient. Don’t go to the media. They said, they’ll take care of it, have trust in them, have patience in them, have faith. We did all that, and they let us down.”

In August, Perez pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter, resulting in the dismissal of a first-degree murder charge.

He was sentenced to six years in prison…
