Blackshirts believe attitude change will spark improvement in run defense

There was no doubt plenty of self-scouting in the Husker coaching offices during the bye week, but there was also a consistent message for Nebraska’s defense coming off the team’s loss to Michigan prior to the bye week.

For all the X’s and O’s that be schemed up during the week, sometimes players just have to make plays.

“We have to be violent and be high effort,” Nebraska defensive tackle Riley Van Poppel said this week. “Football doesn’t come down to the call, it’s 11 guys on the field. You want 11 guys to the ball and you want to be knocking guys out and that’s what it comes down to.”…
