Boston cops are warning residents about a slick phone scam after a Dorchester victim was conned out of cash by someone posing as a police sergeant.
According to investigators, the victim got a call on Tuesday, September 30, from (617) 634-5528, with the caller claiming to be a Boston Police sergeant. The scammer told the victim they owed money for a court-related matter and needed to make payments through Zelle to several phone numbers he provided. The victim ended up sending two payments before realizing it was a scam.
