Jacksonville Community Mourns Teen’s Death as Suspect Arrested for Fatal Hit-and-Run on Arlington Road

In a devastating turn of events, the community of Jacksonville reels from the hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of 13-year-old Genesis Webber. According to News4JAX, Genesis was walking along Arlington Road’s sidewalk when she was struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene. This tragedy has reignited concerns over pedestrian safety, as many say the existing low concrete barrier does little to protect those on foot.

The fatal accident, which occurred across from Crist the King Child Care Center, led to the arrest of 54-year-old Andre Myers. As reported by WAFB, authorities managed to track down Myers, who was already wearing an ankle monitor, following the crash that was captured on surveillance footage. The footage depicted a truck veering off the road and hitting Genesis before continuing, without pause, through a chain-link fence.

There’s a marked sense of outrage, as locals claim the sidewalk where Genesis was hit poses a threat due to its proximity to the roadway and inadequate protection. “The cars get close to the curb, and at night, I wouldn’t trust the drivers to see me,” told Azzel Rios to News4JAX.
