ORLANDO, Fla. (CBS12) — A vigilant bank teller foiled a check scam, leading police to uncover how a 71-year-old Florida man was tricked out of $50,000.
According to the Orlando Police Department (OPD) the suspect, Viera Castro, attempted to cash a $24,980 check at South State Bank on Orange Avenue, but was met with skepticism by the teller.
Sensing that the check was suspicious, the bank teller reportedly called the authorities. When police arrived, Castro told them that he had received the check from a man in Haines City for some “construction work.”…
