Hope, healing and nearly 5,000 strong: Inside St. Louis’ Sista Strut celebration

ST. LOUIS — Thousands of people hit the streets of downtown St. Louis on Saturday to celebrate the 16th Annual Sista Strut. The three-mile walk and parade raising money for people of color battling breast cancer.

iHeartMedia St. Louis, one of the organizers, said nearly 5,000 people came out to celebrate.

According to SistaStrut.org, African American women in the U.S. have a higher death rate from breast cancer than white women. African American women are also more likely than white women to be diagnosed with breast cancer before age 40 and are more likely to be diagnosed with larger tumors than white women…
