In this video, I describe my unexpected visit to Scientology’s National Affairs office. They had opened their doors to a First Friday art walk in Washington, D.C.’s leafy Dupont Circle neighborhood. Of course I had to go in.
Artists were displaying their artwork in ornate rooms filled with books and photos of founder L. Rob Hubbard. I passed by a closed door to the “Social Reform Office.” Scientologists sat nearby, warmly greeting visitors. One Scientologist told me that Hubbard had said, “The future is made by artists.”
Was this art appreciation in a city that needs more art… or just a new way to recruit followers? Scientology’s press office has not currently responded to my request for comment. But historical examples from the Cold War may give us some clues. More in the video. And some photos below…
