Ozzy Osbourne Revealed Suicidal Thoughts Following Debilitating Neck Surgery

Rock icon Ozzy Osbourne, known for his enduring career and stage presence, once contemplated suicide due to a botched neck surgery that threatened to end his ability to perform, a new documentary reveals. In the upcoming Paramount+ film, “Ozzy: No Escape From Now,” the late rock legend candidly shared his struggles with profound depression.

“The thought of not doing any gigs anymore – I went really into depression,” Osbourne stated in the documentary. “I’m on antidepressants now, actually.

Because I was getting ready to off myself at some point.” He further elaborated on these dark thoughts, noting, “I’ll go [to suicide] in my head and I go, ‘What are you f—ing talking about?’

Because knowing me, I’d half-do it, and I’d be half-dead and… I wouldn’t die, you know. That’s my luck.”

Osbourne’s wife, Sharon, and son, Jack, also shed light on the severe consequences of the surgical procedures. Sharon Osbourne asserted that the use of surgical screws and metal plates was unnecessary and “caused even more damage.”

Jack Osbourne echoed this sentiment, lamenting, “The Parkinson’s is progressing, but the main problem is the nerve damage from the bad neck surgery. That f—ing doctor just stripped him, you know, of his abilities to move.”

He added emotionally, “It makes me so angry, because I felt like all this could have been avoided. It didn’t have to happen.”

The heavy metal pioneer faced a multitude of health challenges throughout his life. In 2003, he sustained near-fatal injuries in an ATV accident. He underwent multiple operations following a significant fall in 2019 and again in 2022, with his last surgery occurring in September 2023.

In 2023, Osbourne announced the cancellation of his European/UK tour dates, citing a spinal injury that rendered him physically incapable of touring. At the time, he conveyed his heartbreak to fans, stating, “I am honestly humbled by the way you’ve all patiently held onto your tickets for all this time, but in all good conscience, I have now come to the realization that I’m not physically capable of doing my upcoming European/UK tour dates, as I know I couldn’t deal with the travel required.” While his “singing voice is fine,” he admitted to remaining physically weak despite numerous treatments including three operations, stem cell therapy, physical therapy, and Hybrid Assistive Limb treatment.

Ozzy Osbourne passed away on July 22 at the age of 76. His family released a statement at the time, saying, “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning.

He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

A private memorial was held, featuring a large floral tribute on the grounds of the Osbournes’ estate spelling out ‘OZZY F—ING OSBOURNE’ on the banks of their lake. Osbourne had previously shared his wishes for his funeral in a 2011 column for The Times, emphasizing that it should be “a celebration, not a mope-fest.”

He expressed indifference about the music played but hoped for “pranks” like knocking sounds from inside the coffin or a video of him questioning his doctor’s diagnosis of death. “There’ll be no harping on the bad times,” he wrote, concluding that planning a funeral is “the right thing to do for the family you leave behind” and that he wanted his to be “a time to say ‘thanks.’”
