The Stanley Hotel: The Real-Life Inspiration for The Shining
The Shining is by far King’s most famous book, inspired by Colorado. The book, and later the film adaptation, was inspired by The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park.
Why Misery Might Be Stephen King’s Best Colorado Story
There is a Stephen King Story set in Colorado that is even better than the iconic The Shining.
Of course, this is an opinion, but I believe Misery is Stephen King’s best work that features Colorado as its location.
The story takes place in Silver Creek, Colorado. It follows Paul, who is an author. Paul is rescued from Annie, who, at first, seems very warm and is willing to aid him back to health. What Paul does not realize is that Annie is a superfan of his. Annie is a former nurse who is furious about her favorite character getting killed off in a book Paul wrote. What happens next is bone-chilling and incredibly entertaining.
