Police recover two stolen cars amid probe into auto thefts; West Side sees uptick in heists

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Police say they recovered two stolen cars amid an investigation into thefts on Cleveland’s West Side.

At 11:30 p.m. Sunday, officers noticed the pair of cars and followed them, seeking an opportunity to safely arrest the drivers, said Sgt. Wilfredo Diaz, a spokesman for the department.

But before police could do so, a 20-year-old in one of the stolen cars was shot, and the car he was inside crashed near West 30th Street and Monroe Avenue…
