Man falsely accused of Walmart kidnapping reportedly seeking $25 million in damages

After being falsely accused of trying to kidnap a child inside a local Walmart earlier this year, a Cobb County man is seeking $25 million in damages from the city of Acworth.

Mahendra Patel was arrested in March after fellow Cobb resident Caroline Miller accused him of trying to kidnap her child during a trip to the superstore on Cobb Parkway. Patel was arrested three days later by Acworth Police, who said he had “fled” the scene.

His case was brought before a grand jury by Cobb County District Attorney Sonya Allen and in April, he was indicted on three charges: criminal attempt to commit kidnapping, simple assault and simple battery. Patel was initially denied bond and held in the Cobb Jail for roughly 46 days. After being released on a $10,000 bond in May, prosecutors dropped the charges against Patel on Aug. 6…
