Burn ban issued in New York amid drought-like conditions

Spencerport, N.Y. (WHAM) — Fire officials are urging the public to follow the guidelines of a statewide burn ban that was issued amid dry, drought-like conditions.

The ban was issued Thursday and will remain in effect through Oct. 15. It prohibits starting outdoor fires “for purposes of brush and debris disposal, as well as all uncontained fires, including campfires, and open fires used for cooking.” Small, contained campfires that are less than three feet tall and four feet wide are allowed.

“The ongoing nice weather is great for watching fall foliage or gathering with friends, but it also presents a higher risk for fires that put homes, businesses, and our brave first responders at risk,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a statement…
