LUBBOCK, Texas — What started out as a normal patrol day for officers’ part of Lubbock Police Department’s Mounted Patrol Unit, turned south and ended with one person being arrested. Officers William Trotter and Bryson Lewis were on a normal patrol when they stopped two men walking in the street instead of on the sidewalk.
Officer Trotter said they suspected one of the men had narcotics on them and was asked if he consented to a search of his pockets. The man declined and that is when Officer Trotter said, “That’s cool I have a narcotics sniffing horse…” The man identified as Joseph Ramirez believed the officer and took off running.

“I didn’t really think he was going to believe me when I told him it was a narcotic smelling horse…so I mean it was a funny to us…I think we were a little bit shocked when he took off running,” Officer Trotter said.
The encounter all captures on body camera footage was posted online to the LPD Facebook page and quickly went viral.
