A cold front is making a slow crawl through Kansas today and will leave us as a state divided. North of the front, expect mild and pleasant conditions with highs in the 70s. The rest of us will be windy and warm with highs in the 80s to near 90.
Winds will be strong again today south of the front, with some gusts up to 50 mph possible in a few places.
As the front continues south and east, it will fire off a round of showers and storms this evening from southwest into north-central Kansas.
A few of these storms will be strong to severe, with hail and wind as the main threats.
Scattered showers and storms will continue into the night, with the severe threat decreasing after midnight. North-central Kansas will see the greatest concentration of storms overnight.
Temperatures will be cool to even a bit chilly north of the front overnight, mild to the south.
Scattered showers continue through the night, with activity nearing Wichita by Monday morning.
Monday will still be warm in southern Kansas, but the front will finally reach Wichita by the afternoon. Much cooler with a fall feeling to the north.
Once the front passes through, clouds take over and scattered rain and thunder will be possible from Monday into Tuesday.
The cooldown will be fairly short lived as sunshine takes over again for the late week, with temperatures rising back above average by Thursday.
