ROTTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Mohonasen Central School District announced on Thursday that it will be receiving funding from the state’s Department of Education to support students experiencing homelessness. This grant comes from a McKinney-Vento subgrant.

According to enrollment data from the New York State Education Department, the number of students impacted by homelessness has risen since the 2018-19 school year. In 2018, 17 students were experiencing homelessness, but by the 2023-24 school year, that number increased to 106 students.
The school district will receive $175,000 over three years. This money will go toward food, clothing, toiletries, school supplies, and transportation to and from after-school activities and tutoring.
