Sharon Osbourne Navigates Grief After Ozzy’s Passing, Son Jack Shares Insights
Sharon Osbourne is reportedly struggling significantly following the death of her husband, legendary Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne, according to a recent interview with their son, Jack Osbourne. Ozzy passed away in July at the age of 76.
The iconic rocker’s death came just weeks after his final stage performance, an event organized by his wife Sharon. The couple had recently moved back to their rural Buckinghamshire estate, hoping to spend Ozzy’s “golden years” in tranquility. However, his health rapidly declined after the performance, and he passed away at their residence.
Sharon was last seen publicly at a remembrance service for Ozzy in Birmingham, where she was visibly distressed and openly wept amidst fan tributes. She has since retreated from public life to mourn privately, but her children, including Jack, have spoken about her ordeal.
During a segment on Good Morning America, Jack was asked about his mother’s well-being, acknowledging her 40-year marriage to Ozzy. “When people have been asking me that question, I say, ‘She’s OK, but she’s not OK’,” Jack confessed, as reported by the Mirror.
He confirmed that Sharon feels the immense affection and appreciation from fans. “Oh my god, yeah.
I know she feels the love,” he stated, adding, “None of us expected it to be like this, with that outpour of love.” Jack also reflected on the universal experience of contemplating a parent’s mortality, noting, “It was a different weight to it, you know?”
Weeks after Ozzy’s memorial, Sharon herself shared a video with her daughter Kelly, expressing her ongoing difficulty in finding balance. “I’m still having trouble finding the words to express how grateful I am for the overwhelming love and support you’ve shown on social media,” she said.
“Your comments, posts, and tributes have brought me more comfort than you know… Though I’m still finding my footing.”
Ozzy had often credited Sharon for his longevity and sobriety, stating days before his passing that he would not have survived without her dedication. In the documentary “Ozzy: No Escape From Now,” he revealed, “If it wasn’t for Sharon Osbourne, I wouldn’t be here now…
I’d be six foot under without a shadow of a doubt.” He added, “The one thing I did was have my Sharon.”
Sharon has also faced significant health challenges, including a colon cancer diagnosis in 2002, which coincided with the debut of “The Osbournes” on MTV. She continued working through her illness, telling Metal Hammer, “Because I didn’t want my kids and my husband to know how sick I was.
When you say ‘cancer,’ everybody always thinks ‘death’.” Ozzy shared his own fears at the time, telling Classic Rock magazine, “I thought she was going to die…
But my wife is a very strong woman.”
Ozzy himself battled numerous health issues in his later years, including a fall in 2019 and a Parkinson’s diagnosis. While writing a memoir before his death, he suggested his wild persona was tied to his past struggles.
However, Jack clarified on Good Morning America that his father “was clean and sober at the end. And he was still Ozzy.”
Daughter Kelly Osbourne shed light on her mother’s anguish during Ozzy’s final years, as Sharon tirelessly cared for him through surgeries and pain. In the documentary “Ozzy: No Escape From Now,” Kelly expressed, “I think what’s happening to my mum is the most heartbreaking part of this whole thing… watching the man that she loves most in this world wither is really, really hard.”
Now, Sharon faces the difficult decision of whether to remain in the Buckinghamshire estate she remodeled with Ozzy, or return to Los Angeles to be closer to her family. Jack has questioned the UK relocation in a BBC documentary, fearing it might leave her isolated from her grandchildren.
An insider revealed, “Sharon’s world has been torn apart, they had a clear plan of what they wanted to do and how they would spend their time together, but she didn’t get to do any of it with Ozzy. It’s so sad.”
