East Knoxville locals plan to form group to help protect Chilhowee Park

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A group of East Knoxville residents is considering the future of Chilhowee Park after a plan to sell part of the park land fell through at city council.

Last week, the council withdrew a vote regarding the sale of part of the park’s midway area to the Emerald Youth Foundation.

It was a win for those advocating against the sale of the public land, including Tanner Jessel. Living in the Parkridge neighborhood for 19 years, he has explored what outdoor spaces the area has to offer to the public, which typically does not include Chilhowee Park’s midway area.
