Matthew Wiggins was a 6’3, 285-pound “bundle of love,” according to his mother, Ginger Wiggins.

“He was the best person. He loved everybody. He never had an attitude,” said Wiggins. “I’ve never in 31 years seen him angry at anybody about anything.”

According to his mother, on Sept. 27, Wiggins was hanging out with a friend.“They watched the ball game at his friend’s house, and they left,” said Wiggins’ mother. No one knows how Wiggins ended up badly hurt and lying in the middle of Moffett Road just past DJ’s Grocery Store.

“It’s like several different people are reaching out and giving different stories, different sides of the story. You know, we just want to know the truth, what happened,” said Wiggins’ mother.

One woman said she was the one who called 911 around 10:45 p.m. that Saturday night.“The car in front of me jerked into the turning lane to miss something in the road, and as I approached, I could tell that something like fell off the back of a truck or something, and once I got to it, it was a human being lying in the road,” she said.Dispatchers instructed her to see if he was breathing.“I really didn’t think he was still with us at that time,” she said. “Once I touched him to see if he had a pulse, he started making a snoring noise,” she continued.“The first day, he was responding to everybody, lifting his thumb up. He would open his eyes to command and stuff like that,” said Wiggins’ mother. “But they just said that it was just too much, and he just went downhill from there,” she continued as tears fell down her face…
