MURFREEESBORO, Ark. – Arkansas Crater of Diamonds State Park officials said a visitor from Indiana recently unearthed a 2.71-carat diamond.
Officials said the Crater of Diamonds was the first stop of a road trip for Dewy White of Paoli, Indiana, and his wife. The couple spent two days digging at the park before finding the white diamond, they said.

The couple used screens to sift dry dirt. After initial flashes of excitement upon spotting quartz and calcite, White told park officials that he had spotted something that looked different. He brought it to the park’s rock and mineral identification table and the staff confirmed his find.
White told officials that he knew something was going on when he spotted the sparkling rock in his shovel, before it had even been sifted.
The 2.71-carat white diamond is round and approximately the size of a pea. White decided to call it the “Hope Diamond” because he and his wife hoped they would find one.
