FORT CARSON, Colo. – After a lengthy career in the U.S. Army – and a ceremony acknowledging his upcoming retirement – MSgt. Daniel R. Huddleston, a Cherokee Nation citizen, will officially leave the service Jan. 21 after 21 years.
Huddleston, a Claremore High School alumnus who enlisted in 2004, served as Sergeant Major for the Army Space Operations Branch and spearheaded development of the 40 Delta MOS (Military Occupational Specialty). Army Space Operations Specialist or 40 Delta, approved by the Department of the Army in December 2024, goes live with nearly 1,000 personnel on Oct. 1, 2026.
“Each branch still has to do something that’s specific to them to help them on the battlefield,” Huddleston said. “Army Space, we don’t detract from, and we’re not doubling any missions from the Space Force because they’re doing things that are in orbit. So, 100 kilometers to completely outer space is really Space Force things. But Army, we still have to affect things on the battlefield.”…
