LANE COUNTY, Ore. – Public Power Week has kicked off, offering a chance for residents in the Eugene and Springfield area to engage with local utilities. According to local public utility providers, this annual celebration will continue through Oct. 12.
Jeff Nelson, the General Manager of Springfield Utility Board, emphasized the community-focused mission of public power utilities, contrasting them with investor-owned utilities.
“Unlike investor-owned utilities that have a mission of maximizing profits for shareholders, we exist to provide value to the people who live and work in communities we serve,” Nelson said.
