Greenville-Spartanburg airport runway repaving project will require closures

In order to give travelers and hospitality planners plenty of advanced notice, Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport announced a major runway paving project that will begin next summer.

During a media briefing Oct. 7, GSP chief marketing and communications officer Tom Tyra said phase 1 of the runway repaving work will begin July 27, 2026. • Phase 1 — Overnight closures from 11:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. starting July 27, 2026, and running through Sept. 4, 2026
  • Phase 2 — Two full runway closures lasting 72 hours on Sept. 11-14 and Sept. 18-21, 2026
  • Phase 3 — Overnight closures for remaining work starting Sept. 14 and running through Nov. 12, 2026, and lasting nightly from 11:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

Tyra explained the bulk of the work is planned for September as it is typically the driest month of the year which should cut down on rain delays. The month is also typically one of the slower months of the year in terms of passenger volume…
