MEMPHIS, Tenn. – One of the former Memphis Police officers who pleaded guilty to federal charges related to the death of Tyre Nichols will be released from custody.
A judge ordered that Emmitt Martin be released and required to wear a GPS monitoring device and undergo mental health treatment outside of Memphis.
His release comes as three other former officers, Tadarrius Bean, Justin Smith, and Demetrius Haley, await a new trial on federal charges related to Nichols’ death. Martin, seen in the SkyCop video kicking and hitting Nichols in the head area, pleaded guilty in the federal case.
