HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — Beachgoers in Horry County were left concerned after remnants believed to be from a shrimp boat fire washed ashore.
A large object, identified as a fuel tank, was removed from the beach south of North Myrtle Beach with the help of heavy machinery.
Marc Hodges, a beachgoer, described the scene: “We’re sitting on the beach like we always do. And an object comes floating. Floating down the ocean from, I guess, north. And then the tides are going out. So eventually it grounded itself. And there’s a strong smell that everybody keeps saying, ya know, it’s gasoline, whatever. Then red stuff, you know, started going out.”…
