MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) — A crash involving a tractor-trailer Tuesday morning shut down Interstate 24 in Murfreesboro for several hours as crews worked to clear gallons of spilled diesel.
The crash was reported shortly after 6 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-24 near South Church Street. Live footage of the interstate showed the crashed truck blocking both lanes.
The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office said the truck was leaking gasoline, and emergency crews were working to clean up the area. In a 7 a.m. update from the Tennessee Department of Transportation, officials confirmed hazmat crews were called to clear approximately 70 gallons of spilled diesel. The truck was also hauling 30,000 pounds of freight when it crashed.
