Community meets with Xcel over proposed solar farm near Amarillo

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Following news of a proposed solar farm in Potter County, the community surrounding that area let their voices be heard, and it was loud.

“Today, the room was already full and there was a line out the door wrapping around the building and for the first time in a week and a half, I feel hope and glad that my neighbors are getting a chance to voice how they feel and they may not have gotten to a week ago,” said Taylor Brewster, resident.

Proposed solar farm near Amarillo raises questions from residents

As MyHighPlains.com told you last week, their was push back to the proposed Xcel Energy solar project and community members who came out raised concerns regarding the closeness of the project to their home, Rolling Hills Elementary School, wildfire concerns and what the project will do to wildlife in the area.

“I mean, it’s in my backyard. You can see. It would be my backyard. I think it’s pretty trouble. This weekend, I drove an hour out the the middle of nowhere, you can go ten minutes from my home and there is nothing. You can drive for one hour and there is nothing, so there are options, if they stay here, they said ‘I would rather stick to the little man,’ then just move it literally anywhere else,” said Brewster…
