We are pleased to share that Goodrell Middle School Spanish teacher Shanon Buckroyd has been named the 2025 Iowa World Language Assocation (IWLA) Educator of the Year for the Middle Level. She teaches Exploratory Spanish and Heritage Spanish to students in grades 6-8.
For more than two decades, Buckroyd has inspired Goodrell students to see language as more than words, but also a bridge to culture and connection.
“I love bridging culture and language and allowing students to see the benefits of language learning,” Buckroyd told us. “Seeing them find ways to use Spanish in a practical way makes my heart so happy. Language learning opens doors to experiences both here and abroad, and I believe that all students should have the opportunity to have these experiences.” …
