SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – A Cole County judge ruled in the city of Springfield’s favor in a case involving Torch Electronics’ business license renewal. The company owns and operates coin-operated “amusement devices.”
Torch Electronics accused Springfield of illegally denying its business license. In 2024, the city approved a new city code banning gambling machines. Springfield denied Torch’s business license renewal because it said their machines violate the code. Authorities raided and shut down businesses that had those machines. The judge ruled that Springfield was within its authority to deny the business license and to move forward with a city-wide ban on gambling, which includes these machines.
