Reno Police launch mental health registry to aid first responders

The Reno Police Department has launched the Mental Health Online Registry (MHOR), a voluntary program aimed at equipping first responders with crucial information about individuals’ mental or physical health conditions. This initiative is designed to enhance the safety, dignity, and effectiveness of police, fire, EMS, records staff, mental health clinicians, and dispatch personnel during emergencies.

Participants in the program can submit details such as diagnoses that may affect behavior, preferred communication methods, known triggers or stressors, effective calming techniques, and medical or safety considerations like seizures, mobility issues, or dementia. The information will be securely stored and accessible only to authorized first responders performing their official duties. It will not be shared with outside agencies without legal authority or consent.

Community members can register for the program at renopd.com/mhor and have the option to opt out at any time. Submissions will be reviewed by the Mobile Outreach Safety Team (MOST) clinicians. Any updates or removal requests can be directed to the RPD Mental Health Outreach Supervisor…
