HONOLULU (KHON2) — Countless government employees across the country and in Hawaiʻi are currently either furloughed or working without pay as a result of the government shutdown.
Back pay is not guaranteed either, with the White House recently issuing a memo saying that affected employees are not obligated to receive back pay.
In an effort to lift some weight off the shoulders of those economically impacted by the shutdown, Hawaiian Electric announced they will be offering interest-free payment options to affected customers.
