The State of Alabama has filed an amended notice of intent to seek the death penalty in the capital murder case against Daxton Elliot Keith. Deputy District Attorney Jennifer H. Wilson, representing the state, plans to prove specific aggravating factors during the penalty phase if Keith is convicted.
The notice, submitted on Oct. 6, states that the state will argue Keith committed the capital offense while under a sentence of imprisonment and intentionally caused the death of two or more persons by one act or pursuant to one scheme or course of conduct.
Keith is one of two suspects charged in a double homicide at a Hoover apartment complex back in October 2022. On the morning of Oct. 1, the Hoover 911 center received a call from an individual who stated they discovered two people possibly deceased inside a residence. Officers responded and found two women who appeared to have been shot. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene by Hoover Fire. Detectives began an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this case and believe the victims were specifically targeted.
