Explosion at Chautauqua Co. McDonald’s leaves two injured

(WJET/WFXP)– Two people were taken to the hospital Sunday night, one of whom was transported by helicopter, after an explosion and fire were reported at a Chautauqua County McDonald’s.

Calls went out around 10:20 Sunday night for that explosion at the McDonald’s in the 500 block of East Main Street in Fredonia, NY, with several people injured.

The Fredonia Fire Department said they had crews on scene within three minutes, finding everyone outside the restaurant and the fire contained by the restaurant’s sprinkler system.

After investigating, police said the explosion was caused by a gas line disconnected from a grilling unit that was moved to be cleaned, causing natural gas to spread and was eventually ignited by another grill.

Three people were evaluated for injuries on scene; one had to be flown to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, while another was taken by ambulance to Brooks Memorial Hospital and another was evaluated but not transported…
