North Carolina man identified as swimmer pulled from ocean in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A 39-year-old North Carolina man has been identified by the Horry County Coroner’s Office as the Myrtle Beach swimmer pulled out of the ocean last weekend.

Michael Cherry of Rocky Mount was seen going into the ocean on Sunday near 6th Avenue N. when witnesses lost sight of him, Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard said. He was located shortly after near 8th Avenue N., was unresponsive and transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead just before 4 a.m.
