A resident of Wildwood Preserve Apartments was arrested for driving with a suspended license while on the way to get gas.
A deputy spotted 22-year-old Deon Lamar Cross driving a black Ford Fusion on Powell Road in Wildwood around 8:40 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. A check of the tag revealed he did not have a valid driver’s license.
The vehicle then made a U-turn to travel south on Powell Road from the intersection with County Road 466A, after which the deputy turned on his emergency lights. Cross stopped at the intersection of Powell Road and County Road 142. When asked for his license, he claimed he had one, but it was in a wallet that had been lost in Georgia, the report said.
A check of his driving history revealed active suspensions. He also had been stopped and issued a uniform traffic citation for driving while license suspended without knowledge on June 17. The case was not closed due to a letter which was sent to him returning as “undeliverable,” the report said…
