Incidents of fighting at Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools were up by 339 in the 2024-2025 school year compared to 2023-2024, according to the school district’s most recent discipline report.
Yet early 2025-2026 numbers show a decline year-over-year for the month of August with four less incidents than last year. The Georgia Department of Education requires that while there may be one altercation involving two or more students, each student would be marked as an individual incident.
Chief of Schools Raymond Barnes said the conversation around student behavior and enforcing board policies by holding students, teachers and school leaders accountable while providing systems of support is necessary.
