Father honors late daughter with scholarship for Ascension, Assumption students graduating high school

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A father is honoring his late daughter by creating a scholarship for students from Ascension Catholic or Assumption High School who are pursuing a degree in communicative disorders at Nicholls State University.

Leonard Guedry Jr. contributed $23,000 to the Nicholls Foundation to create the Leslie Elaine Guedry Memorial Endowed Scholarship in memory of Leslie Guedry.

Leslie, called a “miracle baby” by her parents, earned a degree in speech pathology. She worked as a speech therapist for Assumption Parish Schools for 14 years. Her career was cut short by a brain hemorrhage in 2010, and she passed away in 2012, according to the university…
