Each fall, the historic downtown Pilot Point trades its usual small-town quiet for the revving of antique engines, live music and a bit of staged gunfire as part of Bonnie and Clyde Days — an annual celebration that marks a time that Hollywood came to Denton County.
The Farmers and Merchants Bank Building sits at the center of the festivities. The bank closed their doors during the Great Depression, but they would briefly reopen in 1966 when Director Arthur Penn decided it would be the perfect location for a Barrow gang robbery.
In 1967, Warner Brothers Studio released Bonnie and Clyde starring Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty. The law-dodging lovers were both born in Texas and would regularly return to the area throughout their days on the run…
