Bass Pro Shops hosts holiday hiring event as unemployment rates rise

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Bass Pro Shops is in its first day of a nationwide hiring event for the holidays, as unemployment in Missouri is up.

The retail company is looking to hire a total of 80 employees for the holidays for its stores in the Ozarks.

According to the August Missouri Jobs Report, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.1%. That’s up from the seasonally adjusted rate of 3.7% in August 2024. There are an estimated 1,700 more Missourians who were unemployed in August 2025 compared to July.
